Do You Play Poker in Las Vegas?
I visit Las Vegas quite regularly for the sole purpose of playing poker. I live in a state which does not have any casinos, so I tend to run off to Las Vegas many times throughout each year to play in poker tournaments or live poker cash games. I have made the trip 20 times and each time I find some new “insider” information just by getting out and experiencing things for myself. There is a newsletter I pick up from time to time in the casino card rooms called “Poker Player” and it typically includes a poker tournament schedule for casinos around Las Vegas, but I find the information is not 100% trustworthy.
I have hunted around online for “las vegas poker,” “holdem poker,” and “las vegas poker tournaments” and discovered a couple sites here and there dedicated to poker in Las Vegas – but I use the term “dedicated” loosely because, although the subject matter aligns, it appears the webmasters don’t bother to keep things up to date. Some of them list the wrong tournament times; imagine my surprise when I show up only to find out that this individual casino hasn’t had a noon poker tournament in three years. Some of them don’t even have poker rooms anymore or have limited the play strictly to live action cash due to lack of participation in tournaments. This would be good information to know ahead of time. I assumed I could trust these publications and websites, but have found that I just have to scout it out for myself. And this is how I’ve operated in Las Vegas the past five years on all these trips – I go to a “nice” hotel, presume they have a good poker room (which is usually correct) and hope they have a tournament at a convenient time at a buy-in I can afford. And so I’ve developed a fondness for two or three Las Vegas poker rooms and that is where I have kind of planted myself.

So for instance, if I want to play $1/$2 NLHE and want to find out where the best place to play is and how long the waiting list is, I can visit this tab and choose from a variety of poker rooms in Las Vegas.
The poker tournament tab has a calendar which is ideal for planning my upcoming trip. I can see tournaments sorted by time of day and it also includes information like buy-in, blind structure, and starting chips, as well as if the game is anything other than no limit hold ‘em (Omaha, stud, limit, ladies event, etc).
