Catfish Bait: Article 23 Amazing Fishing Information About Crayfish Cat Fish Cait Details Here!
Old School Catfish Fishing Family Secrets
Selecting the right catfish bait can sometimes be frustrating but if you hit the right combination it can be quite rewarding. One type of catfish bait that few catfish anglers use very seldom is crayfish and clams. Our article today will concentrate on how to fish these catfish baits effectively to catch some nice catfish.
Believe it or not clams and other mollusc’s are part of the diet of both blue catfish and channel catfish and they make great catfish bait. You can find them in just about any body of water that is not polluted. Clams are easy to keep alive just put them in your bait bucket with some water from where you caught them and they will last for weeks as long as you keep the water at a cool temperature.
The best way to fish with clam meat is to either impel the meat into all three barbs on a 1/0 to 3/0 treble hook or enclose them in a mesh and place them on the hook. The best fish rigs to use for clams are a slip sinker rig or a fixed sinker rig both work equally well. There are some catfish anglers who also use a slip bobber rig for suspended catfish.
You can either fish clam meat fresh or you can take the meat and soak it in sour milk for about three to 4 days. The smell of the spoiled clams drives big cats nuts!
Crayfish also make excellent catfish bait and they are a under used bait also.Crayfish and other crustaceans give off a distinct scent that attracts catfish and other game fish from great distances and fishing them alive or dead is acceptable.
To fish for catfish using crayfish you can either fish them alive or by using just the tails. You need to use crayfish that are between 3 and 4 inches long. If you are going to fish them alive clip the big pinchers off. They don’t look so intimidating then to smaller catfish. A good way to hook live crayfish is by pushing the hook through the bony horn in between there eyes, or through the next to the last segment of the tail. To fish crayfish dead cut off their tails and hook then the tail through the middle segment.

Nightcrawlers: article # 10 Details On How To Make Walleye Nightcrawler Fishing Rigs Details Here!
Old School Walleye Fishing Family Secrets
One of the best live baits to fish for walleye in late spring and summer, and one of the easiest baits to get are nightcrawlers.Actually there are three species of the nightcralwer and they are the common night crawler, the European night crawler, and the African nightcrawler.
There are a few different ways to fish with nightcrawlers for walleye. First you need to select lively crawlers that are about 4 to 8 inches in length. Always gob at least two or three onto the hook. The best way to hook them is through the head. When walleyes see two or three night crawlers dangling from a hook it is hard to resist. Push a hook into the tip of the head and out about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch back from the tip. You can also use a worm blower to inflate your nightcrawlers. This will make the worm float off of the bottom to the walleyes can see it better. You need to inflate your worm correctly or it will look un-natural. Insert the needle just behind the collar and squeeze a small bubble of air into the head.
Nightcrawler fishing rigs:
- Hook night crawlers onto a two or three hook worm harness. MAKE SURE when you are hooking the worms that you leave some slack between the hooks. When you are using worm harnesses always use at least two to three nightcrawlers. Make sure your harnesses have at least a number 8 hook, but no larger then a number 2.
- Use a slip sinker rig with a number 8 to number 2 plain or floater hook. Inflate your worms to make them more appealing to the walleye.
- Use a slip bobber rig with plain or short shanked number 8 through number 2 hooks, or 1/16th ounce walleye jig.
- Use a split shot rig with a number 8 through number 2 hook. Hook at leaste 3 nightcrawlers through the head, inflate if you want.
- Use a weight forward spinner or spinner tipped with two or three night crawlers.
- Use a bottom walking rig with two or three number 8 through number 2 hook worm harnesses. use at least two crawlers , inflate if you want.
- Use a trolling plug tipped with at least two or three nightcrawlers.
Well that concludes my article about walleye nightcrawler fishing rig. We wish you the best of luck on your next fishing trip!

Live Bait: article # 8 Walleyes And Leeches What A Combination!
Old School Walleye Fishing Family Secrets
It has been estimated that live bait accounts for about 75% of all walleyes that are caught on a hook. One of the favorite foods that walleye like to eat on a regular basis is the ribbon leech And ribbon leeches make an excellent live bait. Amazingly few fishermen use leeches when they are walleye fishing. Probably the biggest reason is the bad reputation that they have as being thought of as blood suckers. Actually the leeches used as live bait to catch walleye or any other gamefish are not blood suckers at all.
The popular leeches such as the ribbon and tiger Leech feed on small worms and other aquatic organisms, but they do not bore through the skin of live animals to suck blood. Actually when leeches get on your skin they are using their powerful suction cup on their tail to hang on. The Leech that gave all leeches a bad rap as a live bait is the medicine leech and it was used to suck blood from humans many years ago.
If you are going to fish with leeches as your live bait selection for walleye it is probably best to use them in late spring or summer because leeches do no work well if the water temperature is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Leaches tend to curl up around your hook if the water is to cold. You need your leech to be as lively as possible and swim as natural as possible to entice any nearby walleye. Just remember leaches work better if the water temperature is above 50 degrees.
One of the best ways to fish leaches as a live bait presentation for walleye is by using a slip sinker rig with a plain short shank or circle hook or a floater size number 8 through number 2. The best leaches to use are the ribbon and tiger leech about 2 to 2 1/2″ in length. The best way to hook leaches is through the tail, through the tough skin on the back of the leaches neck head area, and through the middle of the leech.
We hope the information in this article about leech live bait. Have a great day!

Catfish Bait: article # 29 Key Fishing Information On How To Fish With Using Shad To Catch Catfish Visit Our Website For Details!
Old School Catfish Fishing Family Secrets
One of the best catfish baits for blue catfish and channel catfish is what is commonly called cutbait. Dead bait is also categorized as cutbait and either one of these types of catfish bait work great to catch a mess of good eating size catfish.
One of the most common dead baits that many catfish anglers use are creek chubs. You can hook creek chubs as a dead bait or cut them up and use them as cut bait. There are many methods you could use to fish creek chubs and one excellent method used to fish them dead and whole is to thread them. To thread your creek chub tie a your fishing line to a bait needle then push it through the mouth and out the side near the tail. Next pull the need all the way through until you have enough slack to tie on a treble hook. After you have tied on the treble pull the fishing line back until you impel one of the barbs into the flesh. Let the other two hooks exposed.
Another way to use bait fish as catfish bait is by using what is called plug-cut bait fish. Plug cutting is when you cut the head off of a bait fish such as a creek chub at an angle.then then gut the bait fish. You want to hook your plug cut bait fish such as a creek chub with a fishing rig that is called a mooching fishing rig. The first thing you want to do with your mooching rig is push the back hook through the body and out the side. Next push the front hook through the back so it pierces the backbone and adjust the hook to take up some but not all of the slack. A mooching fishing rig works best for drift fishing or a very slow troll where you want your catfish bait to roll. A mooching fishing rig is a excellent way to catch so catfish especially in a shallow lake where drift fishing is common.
Another catfish bait that works great to catch blue catfish or channel catfish is using shad cut into chunks. Get you a large shad and cut it into 1 to 2 wide chunks. Use a 4/0 to 5/0 hook. Push the hook through the back portion of the chunk and leave plenty of hook exposed. You can also fish with skipjack herring and other oily fish the same way.
I want to thank you for reading my article about catfish bait. Have a great day and the the best of luck to you on your next fishing trip
