In addition to needing web design, basic forum features, and a resource library, the company faced one major challenge: a private area available to clients of Zodiak only. Creating the secure login wasn’t the challenge; however, it was allowing clients to use their same user name and password used to access the greater Paradigm Learning Intranet. “We have a private Intranet that our clients can use to access resources for all of our products. Zplus on the other hand is product specific, meaning Zodiak clients would need access to the both the Intranet and Zplus without having to create multiple usernames and passwords,” says Blackburn.
The Celestial Solution
For this project, Roger West Creative and Code selected a content management system called Sitefinity for one primary reason: utility. In less than an hour, Roger West was able to train a single employee at Paradigm Learning on how to use Sitefinity. That person then trained multiple staff members within the company on how to easily add content and upload resources. “Managing content within Sitefinity is effortless – and our entire team agrees,” says Blackburn.
The Roger West development team avoided the issue of multiple logins by creating a custom control that automatically logged users into Sitefinity once they entered their existing login information. Using the Legacy authentication protocols from the Paradigm Learning Intranet, the user control sends login information to Sitefinity allowing the user to access Zplus.
“The user never logs into Sitefinity. Instead, they log into the Legacy system used on the Intranet and then are automatically logged into Sitefinity through the custom control,” says Michael Westafer, CEO of Roger West Creative and Code.
To meet the requirements of the forum features, the development team opted to create customized user controls for the Zodiak blog and Zplus forum, which included blog lists, categories, and commenting features.
