Commentary on Carbon Expo, Post-2012 and the New Normal.
Transact recently caught up with Kenneth Ivanic, Vice President of Environmental Markets at World Energy Solutions, to discuss insights from Carbon Expo and analyze today’s carbon market.
The market is desperate to know what is going to happen post-2012. On the commercial side, buyers are struggling with long-term concerns in the absence of any binding rule sets from either the EU or U.S. This lack of clarity makes it extremely difficult for buyers, who are used to hedging years out and whose daily job is to mitigate their company’s exposure. Not knowing if post-2012 will be a cricket match or a hockey game makes it awfully difficult to suit up appropriately. While buyers are doing their best to read the tea leaves, project developers and other suppliers are simply trying to get their projects funded and adjust to the new normal.
That said, I could still sense optimism among show participants in terms of the market and how they are moving forward in it. But overall, the takeaways from Cologne are that everyone is looking to figure out how to make this market work and awaiting that rule set – with a keen eye on the U.S. – that will provide near- and long-term market clarity and direction.
I think the key for buyers and sellers alike is to be realistic and to better understand the drivers of the deal from the other side of the transaction. For sellers, we advise being realistic in terms of post-2012 expectations. Sellers have been used to, and typically looking for, a fixed price or maybe even a higher floor price because they’ve been dealing in pre-2012 commodities. But in the post-2012 world, they have to accept that from a buyer’s point of view a floor price is very unattractive. Buyers want the safety of index-based pricing.
I’m struck by the difference a couple of years makes. I remember doing trades pre-recession, when folks were bullish on the voluntary market, and having sellers turn down US$6.00/tonne. Now sellers have to try to get comfortable with the notion that $3 or $4 per tonne can be quite a generous offer. It’s a lot like today’s housing market, where the power has moved from sellers to buyers, and buyers have plenty of inventory to choose from.
We are adapting to this by helping our customers adapt. Sellers today need to understand that buyers are more discerning, looking for – and demanding – exactly the kind of project they want, particularly given the uncertainties in the market. This puts transparency at a premium. Sellers should be prepared to negotiate on price, but, more importantly, they really need to sharpen their focus on providing project documentation and other items that promote clarity and make their projects stand out. Earlier this year, World Energy shared tips for transacting in this uncertain market called “Getting Buyers to Yes”

Dolphin Massacre in Faroe Islands
That is what we read on the official website of a string of Danish islands which, apart from the beaten tourist tracks, are pleased to have retained the original culture and language: “The Faroe Islands are the one of the last corners of Europe where we still find that most people spend their lives searching elsewhere: a real feeling of closeness that surrounds the hollow nature, in a real peace of soul. Devil, the peace of the human soul, the marine fauna pay much, judging by this photo report. Each year, to prove their manhood, boys shall, during an alleged initiation ceremony at a massacre of dolphins Calderon. In fact manliness, wimps these attack easy targets. Dolphins’m very intelligent, they can not imagine such cruelty. The animals approached innocently curious to see the shore more closely resemble what the animals in rubber suits who venture into the water on two legs.
That’s when young people leave their knives and slaughter. Neither seen nor known! In the northern margins, the Faroe Islands are very little visited lands. When you call the Embassy of Denmark to demand an explanation, you are told that you will be reminded. You propose to send pictures of bloodshed? You said a blase: “not worth it, we receive every day.” And the tourist office boasts: “It breathes authenticity. No degeneration folklore, even the day of national celebration, but a unique and serene simplicity. ” In the barbarity too. We must stop this madness. Spread the word.

Scott Stapp is back together with Creed for 2010 tour!
Creed’s frontman Scott Stapp is getting back together with Creed for 2010 Tour. Indeed, Full Circle represents the band at its best, with the first single, “Overcome,” spotlighting Creed’s remarkable transformation and welcome comeback onto the rock scene. “Everything we are and used to be/Is buried and gone,” claims Stapp. “I’m entitled to overcome.”
Five years ago, Wind-up Records recording artist Creed disbanded in what turned into an acrimonious split that left lead singer Scott Stapp and the rest of the band-guitarist Mark Tremonti, drummer Scott Phillips and bassist Brian Marshall-on opposite sides, each pursuing separate careers, with Stapp as a solo performer, the other three forming Alter Bridge.
After three, multi-platinum albums in 1996′s My Own Prison (6 million), 1999′s Human Clay (11 million) and 2001′s Weathered (6 million), the last two debuting at 1 on the Billboard Top 200, selling a total of more than 26 million in the U.S. alone, with hits like “My Own Prison,” “Torn,” “What’s This Life For,” “One,” “Higher,” “With Arms Wide Open,” “My Sacrifice” and “One Last Breath,” Creed had hit a roadblock, both professional, and even more, personal.
A meeting at an Orlando hotel, where Stapp and Tremonti exchanged pictures of their families, resulted in reconciliation and a decision for Creed to tour with its original line-up. Not wanting the shows to spotlight just their past “greatest hits,” the reunited band entered the studio with noted producer Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, Daughtry, Flyleaf, Motorhead, Papa Roach), and the resulting album was aptly dubbed Full Circle, indicating Creed’s long journey to the present, or as Stapp and Tremonti both put it, “a second chance to make a first impression with each other and our fans.”
About Scott Stapp Of Creed
Independence Day 2010 will always have special meaning for Scott Stapp. It’s the date the 36-year-old Creed frontman and his wife Jaclyn Nesheiwat welcomed a boy into the world. Daniel Issam Stapp joins big sister Milan, 3, and 12-year-old half-brother Jagger, about whom Stapp penned the band’s No.‚1 single With Arms Wide Open. With such honest lyrics as I don’t know if I’m ready to be the man I have to be/I’ll take a breath, I’ll take her by my side/We stand in awe, we’ve created life,” the 2000 hit struck a chord with many new parents. Though Stapp penned the song as a nervous dad-to-be, he’s now an old pro.
“We’re broken-in parents; we know how to do it now,” he says. “But we’re lucky. D.I. only cries when he has a wet diaper or he’s hungry.” Stapp, who will play with Creed Aug. 31 at Cruzan Ampitheatre as part of the 2010 Tour,” can always use an audience when he’s rehearsing for his next solo album, due out early next year. The stuff he’s writing reflects his current personal situation. “i spend a lot of time sitting around watching my family, and I love my wife dearly so I wrote Crazy in Love for her,” he says. “I’m never done learning how to articulate about that, and I want to get it right. She and my daughter have changed my understanding of women.”

The cult of Freemasons and their Masonic regalia
Since the ancient times, there have been human cultures that have developed in the dark and remained there for the inquisitive curiosity of the human race. One such cult is that of the Freemasons. There are a lot of different opinions that are circulating throughout about this so called secretive society. Many people call them a very powerful group of people in control of government powers, while others just say they are another religious mystic group that practices weird rituals in secrecy. However, none of these are true. Yet, these stories have lent the Freemasonic society its legendary status in urban and religious mythology. That is what has created an army of myth hunters who are forever in search of Masonic regalia to find out more about this secret society.
The society of freemasons is a brotherhood that was established somewhere between the late16th and 17th centuries and is not consigned to people of any religion or caste. The society aims at creating a better and more moral world. The motto of the freemasons revolves around the cry of the French Revolution, namely ‘Liberty, Equality and Fraternity’. Unlike popular myth, freemasonry is not a secret practice and is in fact, among the largest communities in the whole world with members in every continent. The only thing secretive about them is that they have a very select membership that is not available to anyone and everyone. Most Masonic regalia symbolize a theme of brotherly love, charity and truth. The most common symbol on the regalia is the square and compass. These are the principal symbols of freemasonry and can be found inscribed into their buildings and badges.
With the changing times, the society has opened up a little more to the common public. There are a lot of stores, like the hiram shop, that deal in the sale of Masonic regalia and equipment that are collectibles for any interested individual. These include a number of lapels, tie pins, caps and other memorabilia that will make people feel connected to this organization. Being an institution, the freemasons have been held in high esteem through the ages for their superior quest for morality and truth. These memorabilia have come to symbolize people’s connections to these same values. These are not just collectibles but also items of interest for many masons themselves as a symbol of their decorated past.
Stores selling Masonic regalia also stock up on items like Masonic swords, aprons and collars with square and compass symbols imprinted on them. These are collector’s edition pieces and much vied for by both masons and others. Many of these have a touch of artistic royalty to them as they are exquisitely created and aimed at perfection. If one were so inclined to find a store stocking on square and compass regalia, they can use the internet as an efficient medium of search. However, the credibility and originality of these stores must be checked and confirmed before one chooses to buy any thing from them. Sites like hiram shop are known for their expertise and exclusivity in collecting and storing exquisite and original freemason regalia.
